Downloadable game review: Rotoadventures Momos, by Happy Nutz Studio

Rating: 4/5

Momo is a squirrel who needs to find his missing owner; they were inseparable until one day she was taken away. Travel through enchanted forests, cybernetic mines, a cursed castle and more cartoon worlds
to find the love of his life, following a trail of beads that she has left behind to guide him.

The game has three chapters that you can choose to play in, varying from light side which is the easiest to dark side which is the hardest but most fun! Whichever path you follow you will be running, jumping and collecting the missing beads with a task to accomplish before you can move onto the next level. Control Momo using the mouse... Your cursor becomes an acorn and wherever you point it the squirrel will go!

I played all three paths in demo mode; each path or chapter is different as you will see below:

Light Side: Difficulty Easy -

You are in an enchanted forest full of trees, grass and flowers, it's all very cute I was expecting to see Bambi at any moment! On this level you run and jump along the grassy platforms collecting your friends who will help you move a rock that is in front of the exit.

Electric guitar rock music plays on parts of this level which didn't really make sense to me. Cute animals, pretty flowers and the whole enchanted forest theme... Why would there be someone playing an electric guitar?! Luckily the sound can be adjusted or turned off!

Light Side: Difficulty Medium -

On this level Momo is on a tree trunk and has to run around it following the arrows and gaining height collecting the colored beads.

As you are just getting used to running around the tree without falling off or getting dizzy a sign appears saying Run! This is where a monster starts rising up after you... Run around the trunk time and time again, run for your life or in this case, run for the exit, but remember, don't fall!

Dark Side: Difficulty Hard -

This has got to be the best path. It's so different and fun! Momo is no longer the cute squirrel you had grown to love, he is now a street wise
kid in the city wearing his jeans and hat who mustn't get caught by the police pigs.

Walk through the city following and collecting the beads and you'll meet up with your friend who will suggest you get into a fight and do some graffiti. You can't proceed until you have filled in 3 graffiti blanks on the fence... Run when the sirens sound and the police appear!

The graphics are truly the best thing about this game, so cute on the light paths and so detailed and different on the dark path. This game is unique in that rather than the levels scrolling left and right, they rotate in a circle when you run, it's cleverly done!

The music and the sound effects however were a big turn off for me and in future I would turn the sound off from the beginning. It's difficult to know what the sounds are and they get on your nerves very quickly what with Momo saying "Weeee" every time you jump!

I would recommend buying Momo's adventures for kids (although make sure they have good mouse control) and also for us big kids who like cute platform games! You'll get plenty of game play out of this $20 game since each chapter has a different ending and you can explore all three paths.
