Global warming: The scorecard so far

News media and government leaders have told us that global warming is a disaster waiting to happen and because of this warning, the US economy is in danger of sinking further into the abyss of no return. We've been told these "truths" countless times by leaders who produce convincing evidence and over time we accept it as fact without looking at the scientific data.

How many people embrace the theory of global warming? Not one person on planet earth is in favor of a global disaster and would do anything to avoid such a calamity, but we've been force fed facts with inaccurate data. Global warming now referred to, as "climate change" is big business and big government.

The government said it, so it must be true. Global warning is a man made threat and a horrific fate for mankind. According to Al Gore the threat is imminent. "Gore claims that sea level rise could drown the Pacific islands, Florida, major cities the world over, and the 9/11 Memorial in New York City."

Scientists say the sea level has risen at a rate of1.8mm per year for the past 8000 years. No change was detected during the 20th century and no drastic changes are expected on the present trajectory. Some now refer to Al Gore's book as An Inconvenient Exaggeration.

What are a few exaggerations? Exaggerations might have a dramatic affect an already sinking economy. Good stewardship of our natural resources is a positive effort and the right thing to do, but manufacturing a crisis that many experts say doesn't exist is not.

Al Gore's documentary contains inaccuracies say Science & Public Policy Institute experts and the US Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works released a statement that said, "AP chose to ignore the scores of scientists who have harshly criticized the science presented in former Vice President Al Gore's movie "An Inconvenient Truth."

Hype: There is a consensus on global warming.

Truth: The Manhattan Declaration on climate change: "Affirming that global climate has always changed and always will, independent of the actions of humans, and that carbon dioxide (CO2) is not a pollutant but rather a necessity for all life;"

"In the United States 31,072 scientists, including the author, have signed a petition rejecting the Kyoto global warming agreement." An additional 1,000 scientists are being verified to be added to the list. Thousands more exist who find the assertion the CO2 will destroy the Earth totally absurd."

Hype: The polar ice cap as a whole is shrinking. Images from NASA satellites show that the area of permanent ice cover is contracting at a rate of 9 percent each decade. If this trend continues, summers in the Arctic could become ice-free by the end of the century. Al Gore says the arctic ice cap will disappear in 5 years. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =KrPCUWWjh0c

Truth: A report on January 1, 2009 states global ice sea levels were equal to those seen at year-end in 1979. Ice levels had been lower through most of 2008, but made a rapid recovery from September to the end of the year. http://www.dailytech.com/Artic le.aspx?newsid=13834

Carbon dioxide is bad

Carbon dioxide is used in gardens and by commercial growers to increase production. It feeds forests and grows food by making plants more water efficient. Millions of years ago in the Cambrian period concentrations of CO2 were a couple of hundred times higher than they are now and vegetation flourished.

One of President Bush's achievements was vetoing the Kyoto Protocol. The possible good news for the US is that cap and trade legislation may be delayed while the economy is under a great financial burden.

We can hope the US government leaders come to their senses and take a close look at all the scientific data instead of their main resourse, Goddard Institute. In a recent letter to Obama, James Hanson made an appeal for a carbon tax and revealed that it will work to "a collectivist redistribution of wealth." Expect it to pass Congress sooner or later.
