How to repair PS3 power supply fuses

First off I would remind you that it is best not to repair it yourself. If you're under warranty, home repairs might void it. Warranties could get you free repairs or even a new console. If you're not under warranty, call Sony and ask how much it would cost for them to fix it. It'll probably be around 150 dollars, but at least it'll be fixed by the makers themselves. Another option is to ask your local Electronics store if they do repairs for consoles (like Best buy's Geek Squad).

All right. So you want to repair it yourself?
You may want to buy a new power supply online. They go for around 50 dollars. You can get them on various sites.
Here is a guide to how to properly open up the PS3. You only need to go as far as the power supply though.

When you buy a power supply make sure it is from the same type of ps3 as some of them do differ! (so for example if you have a 40 GB ps3, go to ebay and search for "40gb ps3 power supply")

*If you know for a fact that it was the fuse
The reason why this article is mostly about the power supply is that it's harder to know if a fuse blew out. If you witnessed your ps3 dying, a very loud "pop" sound would have occurred. If one did, take it out of the power supply, go to an electronics store (like Radioshack) and ask them to get you a brand new one. You don't even have to know what it is, they'll figure it out for you. If no electronics store has the same fuse, buy one online. They're not all that expensive. Just search for "ps3 fuse".

Here is a website to buy ps3 parts

Lastly there is one option that requires no actual repairs.
Sell off your broken ps3. Since it's only a power supply problem, loads of people will still want to buy it - to use the parts or to mod it. Then buy a brand new one yourself. Make sure to get an extended warranty and save the receipt. After all it is easier to exchange than it is to fix.

How to prevent further power supply problems:
1) Leave the ps3 in an open area. Pretend the ps3 is clostrophobic - if you keep it in a tight snug place, it'll go nuts.
2) Make sure it is plugged into a surge protector. You don't want it to fry because of a bad plug.
3) Turn it off for a few minutes every couple of hours. It's good for the ps3 and it's good for you - you really shouldn't be playing/watching for hours and hours on end.

A few other tips:

Be sure to tell your repairer if a disc is stuck in the ps3 because of the problem. Hopefully that means they'll return it to you. You should also consider using an external drive for your media. That way you won't have to miss out on those while your ps3 is unavailable.
