Software reviews: Rosetta Stone Hindi

Rosetta Stone Hindi (or any of their 30 language courses) uses an amazing system of teaching the language to a child or an adult. Without having any previous knowledge of Hindi, it is possible to master the language using the five-step method:

Images
Intuition
Interactivity
Instruction
Dynami c Immersion

Here is an explanation of each the five steps, which comprise the Rosetta Stone Hindi program.

Using real-life images, the student becomes familiarized with some basic nouns, which are printed in the Hindi language at the top of the page. Only four are used at a time for easy comprehension. By making the connection between the written and spoken words to the image at the same time, these words will come to mind in everyday situations apart from the study lessons.

Intuition comes into play when the student uses the Hindi nouns they have mastered to build sentences. They can easily grasp the meaning of a Hindi verb when presented with the familiar image from the previous lesson.

Constant interactivity is available throughout the entire program in order for the student to confirm their intuition. The various forms of interactive exercises and specialized activities include checking what they have learned, patterning their speech after a native speaker and using the keyboard to type in the correct answer.

Systematically sequenced in levels, units and lessons, the instruction given encompasses listening, reading and speaking skills, reading comprehension and mastery skills. The most exciting part of the program for me was seeing the sentence written out in Hindi and then listening to the four spoken choices. Being able to read the sentence and choose the correct answer was a thrill and an encouraging motivation to continue forward! My reading skills received a huge boost using this method.

By totally immersing yourself in a program that is completely void of translation and grammar rules, anyone can be speaking a foreign language. It uses the same method that one uses to learn their native language. Then you add what you see in the images to what you already know. This natural language learning process of dynamic immersion is definitely the best way to learn in my opinion, short of being dropped into a country where no one speaks your native language and you are expected to not only survive but also thrive. At least now, when I finally get to visit India, I will not be as apprehensive about speaking the language with people that have known it all their lives. Being immersed totally in their culture is something I long for now.

The Rosetta Stone Hindi program is fun and very user-friendly. The option to toggle back and forth to make sure of things before answering is a great encouragement tool. You can repeat lessons if you wish to or proceed on to the next one. Students work at their own pace, while receiving INSTANT feedback. Their progress is tracked and assessed, resulting in individualized lessons plans being created for them. Previews, exercises and tests are interspersed in every lesson, to add to the fast and effective instruction of building on all the key language skills.

Rosetta Stone is not only the world's #1 language-learning software, but it is #1 among home schooling families as well. It has won awards for its unique foreign language curriculum, which has 30 years of language-learning research behind it. It has been used by millions of people in over 150 countries. Using the Rosetta Stone Hindi language program has been extremely useful in allowing me to come to master a new and exciting language that I look forward to speaking and sharing with others.
