I want to state for the record that the reason why most adsense sites don't earn money is because they haven't realize that adsense is nothing more than a numbers game.
If you have ever tried to make money by being an adsense publisher, then chances are you probably already have figured out that you won't make money simply by slapping some adsense ads on your wordpress blog.
While this may be the case for most, understand that there are more than a few adsense publishers that make money in the thousands per month. What are they doing different?
1. Traffic volume is absolutely key to making money online with adsense- the first big difference between making a few cents a day and averaging $50-100 per day is traffic. Just to use an example, if you have a new site that is getting 10 people a day, then chances are great that you won't get many clicks on your ads. The harsh reality is that making money with adsense requires a lot of traffic.
It is really nothing more than a numbers game. If you are getting 100,000 people per day and your ad placement is generating a 3% click through rate, then you would be getting 3,000 click per day. Now assuming that you are making .20 cents per click, your daily revenue would be $600 per day. Compare this to a so called normal site that doesn't gets 100 visitors per day. Alternatively, they would be lucky to make $1.00 per day using this model.
-Your Strategy-
Since adsense requires traffic, the best way to garner traffic is to optimize your site and try to move up in the search engines until you are number one in the listings. Data shows that the number one listing in organic search takes nearly 40% of search query traffic. In other words, if your keyword is "how to housetrain your boxer" and it has an average search volume of 40,000 per month, then you could assume that you would get roughly 18,000 of the searchers.
2. General traffic is not enough. You need targeted traffic- If you have ever read websites that state that a certain keyword makes $xx amount of dollars per click, understand this; Google rewards the sites that are optimized and laser targeted with the higher paying ads. Most adsense sites don't fall into this category. Instead, you have a small percentage of publishers that are getting the lion share of ad revenue because their visitors are clicking on the ads at a higher rate.
The bottom line is that if you click through rate is lower than 2%, then you may risk being smart priced by Google. The end result of smart pricing is you won't make as much money because the ads your visitors will be served will not be as targeted.
-Your Strategy-
Make sticky content that is targeted to the keyword that you are chasing. Load it up with semantic keywords that "speak the language" of the niche.
Keep an eye out on your click through rate. If you are getting less than .10 cents per click, then chances are you have been smart priced. Remove the ads as soon as possible and wait a week for the smart price to be reset. Then try again. The more targeted that your article or site is to what the audience is looking for, the more likely they may find an ad that interests them.
Making money with adsense is easy but to be really profitable and look at adsense as a means for making a living online, you have to do what the adsense professionals do. Good luck.
