How to save money on cat care

Cats are wonderful creatures and can make fantastic pets, but if you have a cat you will know that they can be rather expensive little critters! Feeding them, giving them somewhere to sleep, taking them to the Vets and providing them with toys to keep them amused can all add up to a rather costly bill over the years.

The trick is, to learn how you can save money wherever you can with these wonderful pets, and to do this, you must be creative. You will need an imagination, but if you don't, I can give you a few starting points to get you going.

First of all, try exchanging the food that you fed your cat to a cheaper brand. He or she may huff and puff at first but it will soon get used to it, and after a couple of months you will see the difference in your shopping bill. Try changing the food slowly to confuse the cat, as such. Give it the normal food one day and then the cheaper food the next, and then make it two days with the cheaper food and one day with the expensive brand. The cat will soon adjust to the new food and so will its digestive system.

The same applies to cat litter if you have an indoor cat. It is worth changing to a cheaper brand and combining the two brands, adding more of the cheaper brand and less of the more expensive brand with every time that you change the cat litter. Again, this will make a massive difference to your shopping bill.

With toys, you can never have to worry about buying expensive toys ever again! A ball of wool will provide hours of entertainment for your cat, and if you buy one ball of wool, make smaller balls from it and you will never be caught short! Tie the ends into the rest of the ball and you won't find odd ends of wool around the place and your cat will throw it around and chase after it with great enthusiasm.

You could also try making your own bed for your pet and this can be as imaginative or as simple as you wish. An old cardboard box with a nice soft blanket inside it will make for a very comfy area to sleep for your beloved pet and will cost much less than a commercially sold one. The same applies to scratching posts which are essential if you want to keep your furniture in one piece! Try nailing a piece of old carpet to a corner wall? Spray some catnip on it to persuade your cat to scratch on it and you will find that this is very cheap and will also never get in your way!

The trick to saving money is to think outside of the box and exchange anything that can be exchanged to cheaper or homemade versions and you will soon find your shopping bill getting smaller and smaller!
