Sarah or Sarai meaning princess was the name of Abraham'swife. She had a cultured upbringing and had a great education. She was charming and very well mannered. She was a very strong and independent women. When she married Abrab she made a decision that she would help him follow god's purpose for him. She would go with him to fulfil his promise of his land and stay faithfully by his side. What she didn't know was that was what God had planned for her. That was her purpose in life. Her faith would be tested a lot. As they were going to Egypt Abram told Sarah that in order for him to live she would have to say she was his sister. She was so pretty he was afraid they would want her to themselves. The pharaoh did take Sarah in and gave Abram lots of animals and servants on her behalf. It is still confusing as to why Sarah went along with her husbands plans instead of what God wanted. Maybe because it is what God had in plan. Or maybe Sarah thought that God would intervene and reunite her with her husband.
The next event also tests Sarah in her faith with God. She could not give birth to any children. She was barren. She had Egyptian slave-girl who was barren though by the name of Hagar. Sarah wanting to give her husband what he wanted most which was a child believed in God's word so much that she told him that since the Lord had prevented her from giving birth then he could have children with Hagar. Abraham listened and agreed so Sarai took Hagar and gave her to Abraham as his wife. Abraham was 86 years old when he had a child by Hagar. He named his son Ishmael. The lord appeared to Abram at the age of 99 to tell him that he would be very fruitful and he would own all of the land of Canaan. He would also circumcise all of his male offspring's as agreed by him and God. And God also agreed to make Sarah where she could have children.
Abram was in shock that God could think that him being 100 years of age and Sarah being 90 could have a child. Sarah eventually did bare a child and they named him Issac. Sarah was happy that she finally had a son. Here is where she gets a little heartless. Seeing her son playing with Ishmael caused her to have a rock heart at that moment. She told Abram to cast out his first son and his mother so that her son couldn't become a great king beside of her son. God told Abraham to go ahead and listen to his wife. That Ishmael would have a nation too because he was his son.
Sarah was one of many strong devoted women of the bible. Her strength and devotion to God and her husband are an inspiration to many who read the story.
