The world's most beautiful stained glass

and then fired within a kiln. By the time the 16th Century came along there were so many different coloured enamels that where being used. Because of this, windows were looked upon more like easel pictures on clear glass of rectangular shape, {the lead calmes were now, by this time, not needed, and were no longer an integral and important part of the picture}. The methods explained above, lasted throughout the 17th to early 19th Centuries. During the 19th Century however, maybe round about 1837, the earlier techniques of creating stained glass were revived.

To sum up: The methods used in creating such beautiful pieces have stood the test of time, simply by surviving so long. The sheer beauty within the creation makes one appreciate the immense dedication and love that the designers/artists had for their work. When I look upon a stained glass design, I see this dedication shining through. Indeed, techniques for stained glass window construction had been described and followed by artists, since the Monk, Theophilius wrote an instruction book around about the 12th Century on how to make and assemble stained glass. 900 years of following his method has stood the artists in good stead.

The Anglican Cathedral, Liverpool, in the United Kingdom, has some of the most beautiful stained glass I have ever seen. So too does Westminister Abbey, St Pauls, and the Vatican, in Rome. But tread off the beaten path and enter small chapels, within the countryside and villages, and there too you will find unimaginable beauty within. Small panels of stained glass, almost forgotten in the mists of time, that have actually lasted through the centuries.

Indeed, for beauty is held within such small pieces too. I always liked to think that the hands of the designers had been touched by a deep spiritual presence when creating their masterpieces in glass, such is the beauty that stained glass holds within. Indeed, stained glass truly is the Glass of God.
