Looking down any residential street one can observe many for-sale signs on properties. There are also far too many empty shops in malls and shopping centers. This is a sign of the times and we as a nation are more than ready to see things begin to improve.
Today, America finds itself in the midst of an economic recession that has turned into a global economic crisis. The experts are telling us that it is the worst that we have seen in our lifetime. In today's job market, it is easy to get worried about your livelihood. In this country right now, there are over 4,000,000 people out of a job. If there was any time in our history to think about reasons why we could lose our jobs, this is it.
There are so many people who would/could do our jobs with the proper training and the right credentials. There are many reasons why our bosses could fire us and replace us with someone who, in the eyes of employers, would/could perform better. Many bosses today are in the "well, if you can't do it, then it will be easy to find someone who will" mode of doing business. We will be well served to pay attention and treat our jobs as the blessing that they are.
Here is a sampling of the reasons why we could lose our jobs:
Missing too much work
Repeated tardiness
Spending too much time surfing the internet
Causing drama
Working two jobs at the same time (meaning working another job on someone else's dime)
Being insubordinate, refusing to do something
Spending too much time on personal calls
Not producing the quantity expected
Stealing from the company or a co-worker
Not producing the quality expected
Repeated missing of deadlines
Taking too many coffee and/or cigarette breaks
Spending too much of the company's money on business expenses
Lying on your application
Being convicted of a felony while employed
This list may not be all-encompassing but it will give us the general reasons why people get fired. There are other ways that we can lose our jobs but those would be more like layoff situations then actually getting fired. For example if the company depends on sales or advertising in order to make payroll then they may have to lay people off either temporarily or permanently if their sales or advertising diminish significantly. Factories may have to lay people off if their production orders are cut.
There are several ways that someone can lose their job. It is not in anyone's best interest right now to take their job for granted. Companies are closing their doors left and right. I know that I only want good things said about me when I go to look for the next job. Prayerfully, you will not be hit by this massive job loss that seems to be attacking our country.
