In the Masters of Mystery game we are brought in to the life of Detective Chase who travels the town gathering clues from places (scenes) such as offices, ships, night clubs, and car wrecks in the attempt to solve the murder of a fashion designer. As you (the detective) travel to each place, you discover a stationary picture riddled with hundreds of objects, In each scene, you are given a list of specific objects that you need to locate. For those users that need some assistance there are tools available, such as a flashlight. If all else fails, the user can use a hint to help them find a particular object. One aspect of the game that could be considered a negative is the wording used for the object list. For example, the word "tape" was used in several scenes. Throughout these scenes, it had different insinuations such as paper tape, a video tape, and a cassette tape. I had to use a hint a few times, because it was not specified what type of tape I was looking for.

There are word puzzles to solve and a lot of dialogue in between rounds of object finding to keep the user engaged. The graphics are very realistic, clear, and vivid. The hidden objects are well blended in each of the scenes, making it very challenging for the user to find them. The sound is well done and appropriate for each of the scenes. For example, one of the scenes features a night club. The music that plays is what you would expect from a typical club. The game is highly creative, which is evident by the storyline. It allows the user to become involved with the suspects. When my time was up, I was tempted to purchase the game because I really wanted to continue the story and solver the mystery. In that same breath, I also know that once I finish the game, that I would never play it again. There are not any other additional levels or puzzles beyond the actual game, so there would be no point in playing it again. I would already know where all of the hidden objects are and what happens in the end.

The bottom line: I feel that the game is basically a "find the hidden pictures" game with a storyline. Although the game was well done and engaging, I would not purchase it because of its lack of expandability. There is nothing beyond the game once you have completed it. This game is very low key and would not be suited for those who prefer action packed games. I give this game a 3/5.
