"they did not break His legs. But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out."

- John 19:33b-34

"When the centurion, who was standing right in front of Him, saw the way He breathed His last, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God!"

-Mark 15:39

"When the centurion saw what had happened, he began praising God, saying, "Certainly this man was innocent.'"

- Luke 23:47

According to legend, Gaius Cassius Longinus was the that centurion. He pierced the side of Christ with his spear, the Spear of Destiny. The Gospel of Nicodemus records that the spear was a gift to Longinus' grandfather by Julius Caesar himself.

The spear passed to Longinus from his grandfather. This spear has a powerful destiny attached to it. Longinus may never have known that this spear would be imbued with a legacy so powerful that whomever possessed it was destined to control the world.

From Longinus the spear can be traced to Roman emperor Constantine who credited his victory at the battle of Milvan Bridge to the spear. He subsequently declared Christianity to be the official religion of Rome.

King Athelstine in Britain was severely outnumbered and surrounded at the battle of Brunanburh. He accomplished a miraculous victory, which he credited to the spear that he carried into battle, saying that it was the spear that pierced the side of Christ.

He gave the Spear of Destiny to Otto the Great as part of a dowry. Pope John the VII used it to crown Otto the Great as Holy Roman Emperor. The spear accompanied Otto the Great in his successful campaign against the Mongols.

The Visigoths under Alaric plundered the Spear of Destiny from Rome but, being unaware of its power, left it behind. King Aetius, however, acquired the spear and credited it with his victory against Attila the Hun.

When Attila was threatening the very walls of Rome the Pope paid him off with a vast tribute. Within the tribute was the Spear of Longinus.

Attila, also not understanding it's power but knowing it was holy, cast it upon the ground and
