LOVING THE BLUES
If your clothes could speak, what would they say? Do they know who you are? Do they give you away?
I went inside my closet this morning and pulled out my very favorite wardrobe item, a loyal pair of denim. Even universal clothes such as a pair of jeans can say a lot about a person based on the brand's style, cut and fit.
There are more than a dozen of these look-a-like beauties waiting patiently in their temporary resting place I call my closet, but only one pair wins the award for weekly (and sometimes biweekly) appearances. Sitting on my body, they feel like butter. There is no denying it. Not even therapy can lift my mood the way these jeans do when I put them on.
The studded showstoppers were purchased four years ago in the windy city, a splurge indeed. Their value is equal to a one-way ticket, but their comfort is like flying first class.
Do not be fooled by their distressed and faded appearance, this is how they were born. It makes them unique. These jeans are aged in all the right places but if the occasion requires it, they can be wrinkle-free in minutes. Wide bottom, heavy gold teeth and a body that flexes slightly, they can be dressed up or dressed down. Although their weight measures only a few ounces, they are actually very tough. They never seem to wear thin or shrink from external pressure. A hand brushed luxury in faded indigo blue.
Their ornate pockets have multiple silver studs sewn along their finely stitched signature design. They do not hide their heritage; it is displayed proudly for the world to see.
As I stand there in the mirror staring at my prized possession, I realize that we have been through so much together. They are my lunch date, my shopping partner and even my bedtime companion when my body is too tired to move. Whenever the mood calls, they can instantly adapt to my softer more feminine side. My deepest darkest secrets are exposed in their presence and protected in their back pocket. My most rewarding moments have occurred with them right by (on) my side.
Just like a good friend, they are loyal and they do not judge. Instead, they remind me to lead a healthy life if I have lost my way: a salad here, apple there and a few miles along the track. In a chaotic world, they are my reality, my sanity.
Ultimately, the way you feel about what you're wearing reveals a lot more than just the clothes on your back.
Therefore, if clothes reveal your personality then I am very proud to be blue.
