I believe that the future of the music industry is in good shape. I say this for one main reason, Indie music. These independent musicians are the ones keeping the mainstream radio in check. There are more musicians trying to make it and they have been heard, and are being heard by people all over the world.
Luckily, there are amazing tools that indie artists can use to get their music out to the masses. Things like youtube, tunecore, myspace, audacity and other home recording equipment, local venues, and of course indie record labels. These things are majorly helping the music industry.
Infact, if it weren't for these hardworking musicians, all we would have is the same cookie cutter music we hear on the radio that people only listen to because it repeats it's self over and over and people don't know better to find good bands and get them on the radio.
I'm going to use a very big example. Nickleback. They started out as a very good, meaningful band. Then what happened? They got too big of heads and sold out. Now they are crap that I, and many other people, can't stand to listen to. By selling out I mean changing your music for money. Being on the radio and being a popular musician is not selling out, thats success, but when you change your music for money, it's like selling your soul to the devil himself.
Of course we can't put everything on the musicians. A musician can be the best musician ever, but, without people seacrhing for new talent, they will never be found and they will simply lose hope. Fortunately, more and more people are searching myspace and itunes and youtube to find some new artists that deserve to be found and recognized as the future of good music.
Although mainstream sell outs will continue to thrive, thos of us who know good music, will continue to seek it out and promote it as much as possible. I hope for a better future in the music industry, mostly because I am a musician who is currently working on getting out there so I more than most people, know what it's like trying to get my name out there by doing something I love.
In the end, it's about the people, people make the music, people listen to the music, and people decide what is spread throught the masses. Hopefully more people will grow to appreciate good music that's out there. otherwise, the music industry will fall. Fortunately though, there will always be people like me who will search to the ends of myspace and youtube to find the best music I can find.
