Most winter sports are harsh and leave behind many bruises and injuries for the summers. However, there are ways to protect yourself from winter sport injuries and there is no reason why you should end up being hurt badly every winter.
Firstly, you need to make sure that you have protective gear. For sports like skiing, tobogganing, snow tubing, and ice hockey, protective gear is a must. If you don't wear protective gear while playing those sports; then that's like shooting yourself in the foot.
Many ice hockey players don't wear helmets and end up in the hospital because a small injury to the head which could have been prevented by taking a simple precaution. Ice is cold and hard, and when you fall on it you want to make sure that you have as much layers of protective equipment you can handle. Tripping and slipping off the ice is common in ice hockey and so are bruises, but permanent injuries should not happen to anyone who wears protective gear.
You can also protect yourself by not getting involved in fights. Some winter sports involve fighting and you should avoid them a much ass possible. Losing one game is better than getting yourself injured for life and making your team lose for years. You can make sure that you aren't the one getting injured by not making any foul plays when playing winter sports.
Also keep a first aid box in your changing room or the locker. First aid can prevent minor injuries from turning into a virus. This is why it is important to put a band-aid on wounds and even the minor cuts should be protected.
You should also learn how to play a sport ergonomically correct. There are many ways of playing winter sports, but the safer ones are usually the right ones and cause much less injuries. For example in skiing and tobogganing there are certain ways which are safer. Make sure you read a winter sports guide before you attempt to play the sports. Learning the correct way to play a sport is not only beneficial to your performance but also to your health.
One foolish mistake many winter sports players make are stunts. Many people like to show off their skills and end up hurting themselves forever. If you love winter sports, then stay away from dangerous stunts because they are much more risky than normal playing. You may look like a hero if you do the stunt properly, but a minor mistake may end up costing you a leg or an arm.
Keep yourself protected at all times with protective gear, keep a first aid box to reduce injuries, learn how to play the sport properly, stay away from fights and don't put yourself in trouble by doing silly tricks.
