The Apostle John was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. He is author of one or more books of the Bible. We know that he wrote the Book of John. He might have written First, Second, and Third John. He also could have written the book of Revalation. John was very close friends with Jesus. The Apostle John was a very important disciple.
John was the son of Zebedee. His mother was Salome. John's brother was St. James the Greater. Both John and St. James were fishermen. John was a disciple of John the Baptist, until he became one of the Twelve of Jesus. Not much is known about John's early life until he met Jesus. We don't even know for sure where he was born. As we will find out, not much is known about John's life, other than his discipleship.
John was very special. He and St. James were the only witnesses of the transfiguration. At the last supper, John sat next to Jesus. John and Peter went to the palace of the high-priest after Jesus was arrested. Before Jesus died, He gave John the responsibility of taking care of his mother, Mary. When John and Peter went to the tomb of Jesus, they saw that it was empty. John was the first to believe that he had truly resurrection. John was called, "the disciple whom Jesus loved." Jesus and John were very close friends.
As John got older, Polycarp became his disciple. At that time, many people had disciples, who they taught. This is almost like having an internship to someone. During this time, John taught Polycarp many things. At about 90 A.D., John was the only Disciple that was still alive. Polycarp wanted to record John's experience, stories, and lessons for future generations. He decided to help John write a book. At this time, there was no New Testament in the Bible. They had no idea that this book would end up in the Bible. John spoke, as Polycarp wrote what was said. This would become the Book of John.
Other than being a disciple of Jesus, not much is known about John's life. We don't know where he lived the last years of his life. We don't know for sure where he died or where his tomb is. Many people claim that they know where he was buried, but in reality, nobody knows.
In conclusion, John was one of the most influential disciples. He lived the longest out of all of the disciples. He witnessed many amazing events. The Apostle John was truly loved by Jesus. He was close friends with the Lord himself. John lived a long life for the Lord, and will spend eternity in Heaven for his service.
