fear of your wrath
used to drop to my knees
all pleas disregarded
you'd drop it any way
iron fist
or a chain around my wrist
could never be made better
by a tender kiss
two men did within you dwell
one from heaven; one from hell
bruises in my dreams
fear in my wakefulness

i could take no more
hope smashed
love crashed
and died beneath the blows
i fled your domain
with the strength that remained
replaced the iron fist
and the chain around my wrist
with the self-offered chance
to pursue instead
a place to heal
a place to re-grow
my self-esteem
a self-allowed chance
to pursue a better dream

Viewing through windows
