A high school transcript is vital to the future of the student. Inaccurate, incomplete or unorganized transcripts can give cause to deny entry to college, employment, military, government jobs and security clearances. Maintaining accurate and complete records through every home school year is vital, high school transcripts of grades 9th through 12th being the most important of all.
Prior to entry into high school grades begin your own homework. Check with each state that you live in or each school district to ensure that you are aware of their specific graduation requirements and credits. Many schools require additional work hours, reading hours or other extra curricular activities that are separate from simple standard school core credits. This information will be required to be documented along with the core credits in order to receive a certificate or diploma.
While you are checking the requirements, ask about their process for documenting home schooling credits in that area. Many times, the local school district has a policy and method of reporting credits that they will keep track of for you. You usually report them quarterly or yearly and often issue a diploma from that district if the requirements are met. If the local district doesn't have it, check with the state you live in.
If there is not a standard policy already established, purchase a transcript online or create one using your local school or state educational offices as an example. They will often give you a blank official transcript to use for reference when you are seeking graduation requirement information. There are also companies available on line and in the yellow pages that can provide you the service of record keeping transcripts, gpa's, establishing graduation plans and issuing diploma's.
Once you have determined the amount of credits, you can create your graduation plan and focus your home school graduation goal around that. Many states have different levels of credits required to earn per school year in a specific grade. Finding out these credit requirements not only allows you advance opportunity to create schedules to meet your students graduation goal, but also gives you the opportunity to ensure that you are providing your student with the appropriate and accurate amount of educational material for the grade level they are working on.
Documenting timely, accurately and in the proper order and credit amount for the grade level that is being worked on or credit achievement goal is essential
