Memoirs: Discovering the truth about Santa Claus

I remember being little and waiting for Santa wide awake, sitting at the top of the steps, wanting so badly to peak around the corner, but making myself go lay back down! My Father was good. I have to say there was never a time that I remember that there were ever any presents laying around and they did seem to magically appear under our tree every Christmas Morning. Around 7 years old my Dad and I came to the realization that I knew. It could of been from overhearing it from adults talking, or simply putting the puzzle pieces together seeing there was way more than one Santa, and how could that be?!

Growing up in the city, there were Santa's everywhere! Times were different. Regardless, even after realizing I knew what was up, My Father always kept the spirit alive! Decorations and Christmas Trees, Lights, and visiting people we haven't seen for ages! Part of our Christmas Day as a child. I still can say there were nights I was convinced I heard bells. Ironically that's the first thing our 3 year old said on Christmas Morning 2008...that she heard Santa's Sleigh! As a child we never really spoke about it, it was always like an understanding.

I was an only child for a long time so I guess my parents assumed it would be something I'd eventually figure out! Each Christmas my Father would always place a special small gift marked from Santa in my stocking, that's a great memory. In my heart, He was an excellent Santa. Christmas was always a good time of year. We have 3 young children that all believed in Santa, well our youngest daughter still does! Our 10 and 6 year old are now both aware, but have lots of fun with it, they crack up at the "Mommy kissing Santa Claus" deal and the "He knows when you are sleeping, he knows when your awake", because when they did ask and we sat to talk with them about it, my husband told them that he was their Santa! They both brought home questions from school, as I'm sure our 3 year old will as well, but understandable. When our son asked, he was about 8, yup he hadn't a question about it until 3rd grade!

I'm pretty sure he heard through the grapevine, but never paid attention to it, always just thinking it was cool that Santa heard what he wanted...now understanding, why we would ask for special request of things he'd enjoy for Christmas. The older he gets the more hints he'll start throwing out earlier in the year too! It's funny. Our daughter just found out this past Christmas. She was asking if Santa was real and that she had
