The middle east is probably the region of the world with the most terrorist organizations. From AL-Qaeda to Hezbollah, the list of well known to small and starting organizations is full. This list will continue to grow until first and foremost the U.S. does not review its foreign policy toward developing countries which is perceived as imperialist and unilateralist.
This policy was perpetuated by the Bush doctrine which alienated many overseas. Surely, a policy that does not take into account the opinion of foreign countries and leads to the killing of many innocents will be badly seen. And the only way for those with a low fire power to have their voice heard is by using any available mean, terrorism included.
The increasing Poverty and lack of education are other causes why terrorism is flourishing. Indeed, those recruited by terrorist organizations are desperate and do not see any bright future for them and their families by following the usual way. Thus, terrorism is the only resort since when enrolled, they are promised a better future. Therefore, the Arab leaders will have to offer an alternative to terrorism by reforming their educational policies and other Arab diplomatic institutions such as the Arab League. Such reforms will lay the ground for a true cooperation between Arab states because terrorist organizations will be out of the middle east with a sound cooperation between Arabs.
Furthermore, the link between the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and terrorism can not be neglected. Acting on the ground against terrorism will set the environment for the resolution of that half century long conflict. That means in one hand, for the Arab leaders to engage in diplomatic talks with the terrorist they arbor and have them participate in the peace process.
In the other hand, the United States will also have to engage in a diplomatic ballet with Israel so they can withdraw from Palestinian territories and stop the use of unbalanced force against the Palestinians as a result of the Arabs denunciation of terrorism. Also, the U.S. will have to ask Israel to stop the illegal colonization of Palestinian land.
The middle east is the center by excellence of terrorism which is spreading all around the world. A successful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict associated with a change for the common good of the United State's foreign policy will considerably undermine the use of terrorism as a political weapon.
