Understanding equality issues in a free world

True equality is a goal seldom achieved in the real world. The reason is because each person routinely discriminates, makes choices or in some way bases his or her decisions on a personal set of morals, ethics and standards. Nothing wrong so far yet there is an undercurrent of malcontents attempting to redefine our morals and standards by introducing artificial concepts such as affirmative action and anti discrimination laws. Both concepts sound like they are noble causes but the reality is they contradict and ultimately betray the very reason for their existence.

True equality in the workforce is achieved by assessing a male and a female based on their qualifications, their experience, their character and their ability to sell themselves effectively. Basing any decision to hire on some kind of quota to achieve a politically correct balance of male and female workers puts lie to equality. Worse than this, a work force consists of a certain number of people that are not ideal workers because of an enforced requirement to hire based on gender ratio.

Another issue relates to those hired on the basis of affirmative action, whether it be ratio of gender or ethnic mix. People hired under these circumstances are never going to be certain they achieved their job or position based on merit or their own ability. The same applies to promotion the glass ceiling' how many women are wondering whether or not they achieved their position because of their ability and hard work? The fact remains that affirmative action means it is not possible to be 100% certain.

Anti discrimination legislation is arguable another noble and civilised method of creating balance and equality yet once again we have totally confused the issue. Nobody seems willing to fact the facts, which are:

- Everybody is different.

- Not everybody will get on with each other no matter what laws are enacted.

- Not every culture is compatible, indeed a good number of cultures mixed in the same location are a guarantee of violence and ethnic hatred.

- You can enact all the laws in the world however that will not stop people from discriminating.

Multiculturism is another failed policy that is now breeding a generation of ethnic and religious violence previously not experienced in western cultures. The reason is precisely this the importing of incompatible cultures and the enforcement of laws protecting imported cultures at the cost of existing values, laws and standards is a recipe for disaster. Britain discovered this recently when disaffected religious fanatics killed using their own bodies as walking bombs a previously unknown atrocity until the import of a fundamentally incompatible culture and aggressive religion. Britain permitted the entry of fanatics and protected their 'right' to preach hatred and division while protecting their right to do so under 'freedom of religion' laws. Enshrined their right to practice their restrictive culture and the sad consequences are now stand as mute testimony to the folly of an overly permissive society - all in the name of 'equality'

Enforcing equality is literally an oxymoron because anything enforced is hardly fair or equal. Perhaps in time, legislators and leaders will begin to recognise the reality of false equality and the stupidity of laws enforcing affirmative action and anti discrimination. The only way to true equality is to exercise free choice, and to protect our own culture, values and peaceful existence.
