There are alot of Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (or MMORPGs) out there to choose from, Some you have to pay for (World of Warcraft or WoW) and some that are free (Materia Magica, Aderon, Bourbon and blood...to name a few that I have tried) but if you are looking to play one yourself you have to consider a few things about the games themselves.
The first thing you'll want to consider is, do you want to pay to play (and pay to buy the software and then a suscription to the game). Some of the pay to play games are worth the money if you can afford to spend it. If you're into the final fantasy series of games on playstation or PC you can buy FFXI for online and play with your other FF fanatics. But for the most part these games go obsolete when they come out with an expansion pack that you have to pay as much for as when you bought the game to begin with.
The next thing to consider is do you want to play a 'Hack and Slash' dungeon type game where you kill mobs and non-player characters (NPCs) or do you want just a game that you are roleplaying with real people only, this seperates your MMORPGs into a whole new catagory. For example Bourbon and Blood is taken from the Tabletop game of Vampire: The Masquerade, and it is completly roleplay without mobs/NPCs to kill, if you are into roleplay games like that it'd be a great game for you. But, on the other hand if you're into dungeons and dragons like games, you might prefer a game like Materia Magica, where you kill orcs, goblins, ogres and can play as Ogres, humans, dwarves, halflings (Hobbits), Half-elves, Elves, or Fey/Sidhe (Vampire/pixie type characters).
Another thing you'll want to consider is if you dont want to put to much work into a character that you've created, thinking up different classes for they and such. If you dont want to, then Aderon would be a great game for you to try.
Anyway if you are looking for a MMORPG to play, I hope i've helped out even a little.
