Downloadable game review: Space War Commander

Think you have what it takes to fight space battles in a ruthless galaxy. Try out Space War Commander where you lead your space station against space pirates, raiders and aliens that want to destroy you. As commander you are in charge buying ships that defend the space station and attack your enemies. You also use your ships to take control of planets and asteroids in order to gather supplies so you can buy more ships.

There are several different types of ships to choose from. Some ships are built to be fast while others have lots of armor or have powerful weapon it all depends on what you need. As you buy ships they appear outside your base ready for action if you just leave them there your base will be well protected but chances are the enemy will take over the planets and asteroids that provide supplies.

All you have to do is destroy the enemy space station using any of the ships at your disposal. Of course the enemy is also trying to destroy your base as well and remember in order to build more ships you need to take over planets and asteroids in order to accumulate supplies to build ships or you can build a freighter ship and trade supplies amount planets and the trade station to make a little extra loot on the side which you probably will never do because you are too busy fighting enemies that are trying to destroy your base and ships on the map. If creating a fleet, maintaining a supply line and fighting space pirates, raiders and other aliens seemed a little too easy, you have to do all of that before your station self destructs around you.

The controls are simple enough you just point and click on what you want, but you find yourself rushing between fighting battles and building new ships without any hot keys which quickly becomes annoying. Again the idea is simple enough, but the game goes from very easy to all out frustrating in a matter of moments.

In the midst of all the chaos of ships being destroyed the music and sound effects start to blend together and sound the same. After a while you don't even hear the music or the sounds off ships exploding because you are so busy trying to destroy the enemy base before your space station self destructs.

This game is just annoying with its choppy low grade graphics that added nothing to an already boring game that can only be played at two speeds slow and slower.

Space War Commander from Dreamspike Studios receives the lowly score of 1/5.
