Are stay at home moms under pressure to return to work?

Yes

by Christina Rivas

While there may not be someone telling you that it's time to go back to work, most stay at home mom's feel that it is their responsibility to go back to work as soon as possible. I have spoken to a few stay at home mom's that I know and they all said the same thing. I know this to be true because it is something that I myself feel.

Although my husband is very supportive of my being a stay at home mother, and he has never asked me to go back to work, I still feel a responsibility to him and our children to go back to work. It's not that we can't get by on what my husband makes, it's just that I feel like I could be doing more to help our family.

Please don't get me wrong, I love staying at home to raise my children. Unfortunately I also feel guilty. There are bills that need to be paid, food to buy and other things that require money to do. I feel like it isn't fair that my husband has to go to work everyday, just to be able to afford those things.

There may be people asking why I feel guilty if my husband supports the decision so I'll tell you. I feel guilty because while I get to stay home and watch our beautiful children grow into sweet young toddlers, my husband has to leave the house to slave away for some boss.

In a way I feel guilty because I get to stay home and spend time with our daughters. That is not to say that my day is nothing but fun time, far from it. I still have to make sure that the house is clean, the laundry is done, the children are happy and that all the other household chores get done.

I am also responsible for ensuring that the children learn new things, the pets get taken care of, the finances are taken care of and other things. Along with being a stay at home mother, I also work online and I take courses in order to make a career for myself. So you see there are many things to do throughout my day.

I guess there is no helping it though, I am almost positive that even if I was working, I would still feel that there could be more that I could be doing to help out. I think it's worse for stay at home mom's because in a way we feel like we have the easier job, which trust me is not the case.

Stay at home mothers might not earn money for their jobs but they do work. In fact while most jobs only require their employee to perform one task at a time, being a stay at home mother often requires us to perform multiple tasks at once. I cannot tell you the number of times I have had to make dinner while doing laundry, playing with the children and cleaning.

So if you are a stay at home mom and you are feeling like it's time to get back to work, just remember that it's not always necessary to rush out and get a job. Staying home with your children is a VERY important job.

The first few years of a childs life are very important to their development. Personally I would rather be the one to teach my children, I say this because it is important to make certain that your children are learning the things they need to develop properly. I don't know a lot of mothers that think differently.

My husband and I personally, we dead set against having our children in a day home. You never know what those people are like behind closed doors and away from the parents of the child they are watching. I would much rather stay at home with my children than risk having them abused or mistreated. It is for that reason that I justify staying at home with your children.
