Poetry: Moving on

by Greg Du Pille

Created on: January 09, 2009

"Move on, I have, and so must you
You gave me too much strife
Why hang around as if you are
Important in my life?"

An unexpected resource
The joy of friendship new
Rescued from uncertain fate
Yes, remember, that was you.

We didn't leave you on your own
Unloved and really scared
But picked you up and took you in
Because, it seems, we cared.

Your home, family, with us you had
Security replaced
Finishing your childhood days
With love your life was braced

Then change set in, you'd set your mind
Your time was yours to choose
Life was filled with new friends now
And we were just old news

We shared our lives together
You used to be our friend
Those days have gone and you've moved on
You've no more time to spend.

Your news now a mere txt or two
provided they are free
A two-word answer seems to be
Your current specialty

Our meetings, once so frequent
Rare now or made by chance
Or fuelled by mere expediency
A stomach-wrenching dance

So, new life sorted as you'd hoped
We cheer you on your way
Another disposable family
You have with which to play.
