I like to forget sitting there with a stupid grin
down on one knee promising to love forever
with my dead grandmom's wedding ring
all your friends looking on with laughter
I like to forget that glow that came upon your face
the small glimmer of hope that maybe you would be mine
Your wonderful dangerous toxic crew chuckling as I pulled my belt up
taking you by the arm
away from our eternity
I like to forget how important it all seemed
how final and life changing the event represented
how dumb and pathetic and sad
I like to forget how mad I got at you
how I promised myself I would never bother
to call or write or text or
but I was weak and knew the truth
I like to forget that powerless feeling
that out of body lovelorn heartbreak
tucked tailed absolute misery
convoluted delusion
I like to forget the painstaking explanation to my mother
how I gave her heirloom away
discarded a cherished family prize
for a fleeting whim
I like to forget the shame
how it swallows and devours
how it cripples and destroys
You would like to forget how I came to your house
during dinner and asked for the ring back
how mad your dad was
how your parents started asking you about being safe
I know you'd like to forget
how they thought I was your boyfriend and invited me to stay
I like to forget that awful taste of mashed potatoes
topped with misunderstanding
that putrid smell of hot apple lie
I'll never forget the look on your mom's face
when you stood up and threw the ring at me
when you told me to never talk to you again
when you said you didn't want to be seen with an idiot
I walked out with the ring feeling confused
what was so upsetting about falling in love
I can't forget that love does not exist
when only one believes it does

Let's forget it
Just forget it
Forget my face
Forget my name
The love we shared
It's all I knew
Forget it all
Forget you
Let's forget
Let's forget....

me and you, you and I
Forget the good and the bad
you know
the whole me and you, you and I

Let's forget
How we got here
For every life
Comes through
The many mountains
Of life
Some are full
Of monsters
Some are just like
