When you think of suburbia, visions of minivans, strip malls and nicely manicured lawns may come to mind. However, if you are single and just so happen to live in this land of soccer moms, then you may wonder where to meet others of your kind.
Well, do not despair because there are some good places to meet singles in suburbia. The key is to fit some of these places into your regular routine. That way, you will seem more natural when you cross paths with someone you may want to meet.
One great place is your local Starbucks or other coffee shop. If you go there as a hangout, take a newspaper and your laptop. That way, you can relax, enjoy some coffee and scout for singles. The odds you will run across some one of interest will increase the more frequently that you stop by for your java fix.
Another option where singles can be found in the suburbs is the gym. In fact, most gyms are filled with singles who are busy staying in shape so as to stay competitive in the dating market. If you see someone that interests you, why not strike up a conversation?
Ask the person how often he or she works out, and you will more than likely get a friendly response. Those who are passionate about working out like to talk about it. Before you know it, the ice will be broken.
If coffee and working out are not really your things, then you may consider meeting other singles at the grocery store or other retailers. Stores like Target are often filled with singles who are busy buying items for their home.
Think about it, everyone has to shop for staple items, including the most reclusive of the singles out there. While it may take a bit of nerve to strike up a conversation in the store, at least you can make a quick getaway if you are rejected. There are aisles aplenty in which you can run and seek cover.
Finally, suburbs are full of sports bars. This is a great place to meet singles. You can relax over a beer, cheer for your favorite team and check out the scene. And, conversation should come relatively easily in this friendly and often rowdy environment.
In conclusion, the suburbs are filled with families, no doubt, but there are singles to be found as well. Keep your eyes open and be brave. You really have nothing to lose by saying hello to someone who appears to be a fellow single. And, if you are in a place where you feel comfortable, the odds are you will make a better and more natural first impression.
