Downloadable game review: BrainPipe

Brainpipe: A Plunge to Unhumanity is an innovative arcade game that offers gamers of all ages and skill levels a unique sensory experience. The soothing, psychedelic graphics, immersive sound, and smooth game play warrant a 5/5. The controls are so intuitive that there is virtually no learning curve. The player can begin enjoying this game without any tedious tutorials or frustrating trial and error. I recommend this game to anyone who ever needs a break during a hectic day or anyone who wants to relax with a fun, simple game.

The premise of the game involves using the mouse to navigate a colorful tunnel reminiscent of an eye-catching screen saver from the 1990's, the kind that you could stare at, hypnotized, for an indefinite period of time. While zooming through the abstract, organically curving tube, the player tries to collect glowing runes while avoiding various obstacles. The mouse controls the direction of movement, and the game can be played easily with one hand and no worries about which button to press when. The game also supports a joystick or gamepad.

While the visuals alone are sufficient to enthrall the player, the sound effects take Brainpipe to a whole new level of escapism. A surreal mix of new age music, "sci-fi" sound effects, arcade music, and mysterious voices add drama and interest without ever becoming a distraction. The sound and graphics complement each other perfectly, creating an abstract world that completely captures the player's attention.

The experience provided by this game can best be described as "Zen-like". It is impossible to worry about one's job, spouse, mortgage or other obligations when playing Brainpipe. The player is not driven by a competitive need to earn a high score, or even by curiosity about what the next level will be like. Instead, the player is transported into an abstract world that is enjoyable in its own right. The result is that a few minutes of playing Brainpipe have the same effect as a well-needed nap or an energizing piece of good news.

At $14.95, downloading the game Brainpipe is an extremely affordable way to relieve stress, have fun, and take a break from your everyday activities. For those who remain skeptical, the trial version is a free download and will allow you to experience this uniquely engaging game for yourself. However, before you download the trial version, make sure that you really are prepared to spend $14.95, because you will want to buy this game.
