From my teens to my mid twenties I slowly built a picture in my mind of the man of my dreams. I started with physical features, such as blue eyes, strong arms, lines just like the ones Bruce Willis has on either side of his mouth :) The man I dreamed of was truly charming and very romantic. He would adore me, love me and treat me like I was his princess. He wouldn't want to change anything about me, he would talk to me for hours, stay up late and watch films with me. He would hold me in his strong arms and I would feel warm and safe. And finally, as silly as this may sound, he would be a musician and singer waiting to write some beautiful love songs just for me, just like the ones I spent my youth listening to on the radio, dreaming that one of those songs were written for me.
I was 25 when I met a wonderful man. I say met but we actually only talked on-line. He was just incredible, he was so interesting. We could talk for hours and hours. There were many nights we never went to bed, we just talked on-line. We shared dreams and hopes, we laughed and giggled, we told each other our most intimate secrets and it wasn't very long before we knew each other very well. We decided to meet! I had seen a picture of him but it wasn't very clear picture so until that day I had not noticed the perfect Bruce Willis style lines at either side of his mouth, or the most stunning blue eyes I had ever seen. I had no idea that later that day he was going to hold me just as the man in my dreams did and I would feel the warm safety of his perfect strong arms.
Could this be real? I didn't think so. O. K. so he looks like the man of my dreams. He talked like the man of my dreams, but surely, dream-guys don't really exist? I told myself to wake up and stop dreaming. So one day, after many tears and a lot of thinking and coming to the conclusion that he was too good to be true, I sent him a message; I tried to tell him that we couldn't see each other anymore. In response to that he wrote a song for me! Yes, he was a musician and a singer too! He wrote the most beautiful song I have ever heard. At this point I had never mentioned to him that this was one of my life long dreams.
I was so afraid. I was falling in love too quickly and terrified that if I let this carry on I would end up broken hearted again, if I fell for him and then he did turn out to just be a great actor I would be so badly hurt that I might not recover. But what if I let him go, and never know, what if I say goodbye and then live the rest of my life in agony over what could have been?
I thank God! I truly thank Him. Because almost ten years, six children and many love songs later I am more in love than I have ever been! I am more loved than I have ever been. We still love our late night conversations that go on until the early hours of the morning. We adore one another each and everyday. We continue to share hopes and dreams, we love every second that we are together.
I am married to the man who is living proof that...Yes! The man of your dreams does exist.
