Video game comparisons: Halo 3 vs. Call of Duty 4

Halo 3: 9.5

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare: 9.0

Gamespot declares that Halo is one half a point better than Call of Duty 4. Both of these hits were released within two months of each other, in 2007. Halo is a futuristic FPS set in multiple environments, including a destroyed Earth, on space carriers, and on the mysterious structures called "Halo"s. Players play as John 117 (Master Chief) a super soldier.

Call of Duty 4, a modern war game follows two storylines of two characters who work for the same goal. You play as the SAS soldier "Soap" and the USMC troop Sergeant Paul Jackson. The majority of the storyline follows Soap and his quest with his squad to prevent a Mid-East terrorist (Al-Asad) from launching nuclear missiles.

Both games are addictive, fun, innovative, and offer great onlined gameplay. These gems are the face of the Xbox 360, the two most widely recognized games that are in an elite class in the gaming pyramid, yet which is better?

CAMPAIGN

Halo 3's campaign is a little too repetitive. You are the Master Chief. You fight aliens, and then, there's an outbreak of the "Flood". Some psycho tries to activate "Halo" (which will wipe out human existence) and you manage to save the day just in time. There are some twists in the story that are not expected, and new weapons are introduced, and others are updated. The graphics are improved, the gameplay made smoother...yet it is still Halo. Compared to the quality of the other two Halos, you expected this game to be good. And it was. Yet it didn't blow you away, didn't prove itself as a hidden gem, which made it too predictable. A good gaming experience, and should be in your gaming library, but its luster may fade with age.

Call of Duty 4's campaign offered many surprises. I remember thinking, "Call of Duty has always been WWII," and that made me worry about how the transition to Modern Warfare would be. The campaign was too short, but the gameplay, storyline, weapons, and animations had me immersed. The game ended with a "Bang!" offered a bonus level, and left you hungry for more. The graphics and sound made you feel like you were in the war-torn middle-east, and offers replay value if you go at it again with the difficulty up to "Veteran" (Of course you can score some Gmaerscore too). This surprising release soared above expectations, and I'm still no the lookout for Modern Warfare 2.

WINNER: Call of Duty 4. I've gone back and tried to beat Halo 3 on Legendary...but it didn't have enough appeal the second
