Songs: Winter

by Mike Romeling

"Winds Off Lake Erie"

Freezing rain, stalled trains, snow moving in, I don't think we're going anywhere

Station man he's laughing, he's seen it all a thousand times and by now he used to sleeping in a chair

Those worn out chairs, blank stares, stains on my jeans, I don't know when I felt so down dead

Saw you in the corner, never dreamed you'd speak to me and I could not quite believe it when you said,

"I can tell your future by your ticket's destination and your past by the signs on your face

And these winds off Lake Erie may keep us here a while and that's why I always keep around some lace."

Empty streets, cold feet, sirens on the wind, memories of Christmas all over town

You said you liked to wander nights with your head up in the clouds but still keep both your feet down on the ground.

Mason jars, childhood scars, jasmine in your tea, crazy quilted patterns on your walls

I know we're just pretending, trying to keep me high, till that early morning train whistle calls

And I can tell your future by your ticket's destination and your past by the sign on your face

If those winds off Lake Erie ever keep you there a while, it's alright, it's about as good as any place.

Mason jars, childhood scars, jasmine in your tea...
