Traveling to Pittsburgh is considered a "must do and must see" for children and families on the road, families who have decided that traveling is one of the top bonding activities to bring families together. With that in mind, activities for kids in Pittsburgh are not only enjoyable but educational for the entire family with wide variety to choose from.

PRE-PLANNING THE TRIP

Traveling with children through ground, water, or air travels require their own set of rules in order to keep the entire family busy yet content until reaching the big city of Pittsburgh. Pre-planning will set the scene for the trip, with the amount of planning depending on how far away Pittsburgh is from home base. Mapping out how to get there and how long it will take prepares everyone in advance, with small children and infants requiring a little more than most yet enjoying the trip with the most heartfelt enjoyment.

Regardless which traveling route is chosen, taking toys along with a lot of small and movable parts will never survive the trip, with "one-trick" toys causing an instant boredom for children of all ages. Portable art projects that consist of crayons, markers, pencils, coloring books, drawing paper, are the best for both adults and children of all ages. Books to read and CDs to listen to provide hours of enjoyment for the older children, while some of the more modern vehicles have DVD players with favorite movies to keep everyone occupied.

PITTSBURGH ZOO

People of all ages love animals, from great-grandma and grandpa on down to the latest infant in arms. But nobody loves them better than toddlers and children of all ages, with the Pittsburgh Zoo offering the PPG Aquarium, Water's Edge, and many more, with the Kid's Kingdom the finest in the country. Representing over 475 species on 77 acres with a 400 animal kingdom, the Kid's Kingdom offer Worlds of Discovery, Project Polar Bear, Hey Henry!, Maggie Paints, and of course, ANIMALS!

Considered one of the nation's top three children's zoos, it opened in May 27, 1995 with one of the top interactive facilities available for children, such as walking through the deer yard, playground that promotes playing like animal movements, penguin slides, mole rat tunnels, goat yard, see-through tunnel of a meerkat exhibit, and much more.
