Understanding Helium titles

titles seem to be self explanatory, but beware. What these titles want is original content and not just recipes. Helium recipes are a little different. They want narrative. They cry out for you to write an introduction, the ingredients, the recipe instructions and a conclusion to tempt the reader into trying out that great recipe you wrote.

Personal experience and testimony.

Usually the titles which cover this are pretty self explanatory and include the word "Testimony" within the title. These are first person accounts and it is perfectly acceptable to write articles which relate your experience in first person.

Creative writing.

Creative writing titles sometimes baffle writers. Poetry is grouped into kinds of poems, rather than anyone creating their own personal poetry title. If you try to create a title which is only specific to your poem, chances are that others would not be able to contribute, and the whole purpose of Helium is that people can all join in on topics they are familiar with.

The drama titles are the most misunderstood titles on the site. People instantly think that drama means life drama. It doesn't. Drama titles are for written scripts and plays only, and chances are that if you write anything else to these, they will be deleted as off topic.

So how do you find a title to write to?

Finding a title to write to is simple. Use your personal MY HELIUM page and press the title finder. Put in words which represent your areas of interest. Try various searches. This brings up a whole list of narrowed down titles you can write to. If you cannot find a title, be careful to recognize the style of titles used so that you can suggest a title.

Suggest a title.

Going back to your MY HELIUM page, press Suggest a title, in the panel on the left hand side of the page. Here, you can make suggestions, but to make your title acceptable, ask yourself whether the title you propose is clear in its meaning, and whether it covers what you want it to say. It is important that your title clearly states what someone would find if they opened the article. Clarity is paramount to title success. When your title is accepted, you will receive an email. Check it and check that it is contained in the correct channel before writing to it.

It takes a while to get accustomed to Helium titles, though once you do, you will wonder why you had difficulty in the first place. Once you understand the principle that every title must be shared with others as a competitive title, it becomes easier.
