Understanding Helium titles

by Rachelle de Bretagne

Created on: January 08, 2009

Many members ask about Helium titles. There seems to be rather a lot of confusion about finding them, creating them and indeed writing to them. Understanding a little more about how they work and where they are located, as well as what kind of content is expected for each type, helps a new writer to make the best of the site, and this article is written to help people to understand their significance.

*Channels.
*Styles.
*Reviews.
*Analysis.
*R ecipes.
*Personal experiences and testimony.
*Creative writing.

Helium is made up of not only channels, but sub-channels. Some may not seem obvious, though the way to find titles in a channel which interests you is to press the Helium name logo at the top of the site which takes you to the front page. Here, on the left hand side of the site, is a list of channels, and to access the sub-channels within each channel, press a channel which interests you, and look into all the sub-channels to find the right title.

This helps you to understand title placement, and if you don't find what you are looking for, do use the Title Finder which is located on the left hand side of your MY HELIUM page.

Styles.

There are many styles of title, though the general layout of titles is a uniform one which suggests the style of article suggested. Testimonies will be labeled as such or will ask you to write an article which includes "you" personally, as the word will be included in the title itself.

Non testimony or magazine style articles are those which don't ask for personal information, but ask you to write in a more neutral stance on topics which you are familiar with, taking the "you" and "I" element out of the article, and keeping your articles in clear and informative style which is easy to read for those members of the public looking for information.

Reviews.

Reviews are articles which describe a product or service. These are based on experience and can be in either first person format or a more neutral style. Movie reviews, Product reviews, website reviews all want you to relate to those items reviewed so that someone requiring information can find that information all included in one place.

Analysis.

Analysis goes deeper than reviewing. Analysis takes the subject matter and dissects it. If you write a literary analysis, this won't be a book review, but will be a much more in depth article about an element of the literature covered by the title. Movie analysis is very similar and delves into depth about movies and the elements contained in that movie.
