In the sense that global warming is something mankind has done to the world, yes, it is a hoax. This isn't to say that global warming does not exist.

An article published in the 2009 Farmer's Almanac showed new insight and research into global warming. It concluded that we had recently been part of a warming trend that was now waning and were beginning a global cooling process. It has been part of an ongoing cycle and is merely one half of it. Their findings, including a timeline of the global warming and cooling process, can be seen online at http://www.almanac.com/timeline/index.php . Their timeline shows in the late 18 and early 1900's, people were concerned with global cooling and that a similar global warming scare to the one people obsessed over in the 1990's happened in the 1930's through 1950's. Then a cooling scare began in the 1960's and 70's. Our current global warming issue began popping up around 1980. Also siding with the global cooling trend, according to the National Climate Data Center, the 2008 average temperature of the continental United States through November 2008 was below normal when compared to the 20th Century average.

The Farmer's Almanac article goes on to show that in the early 2000's places like Chile, Baghdad and South Africa had some of the coldest winters they have had in 50 years or so and includes pictures of snow in Baghdad from 2008. The article sites statements from the International Harold Tribune and the New York Times among others during periods of both warming and cooling.

Also in the article is a chart showing CO2 emissions from year-to-year compared to the average temperature of that year. This chart can be found at http://www.almanac.com/timeline/coolclimate.php. It clearly shows that CO2 emissions and global warming were not directly correlated by displaying years where CO2 emissions were at there highest and the temperature was lower than normal and vice-versa. Another website of interest, isthereglobalcooling.com, states that the Medieval Period was roughly two degrees centigrade warmer than now. Seeing as how there were no manmade vehicles emitting CO2 in that era, man is hardly to blame for the now declining period of global warming.

In no way am I stating that we shouldn't watch our emissions and strive to clean our environment. I merely believe that global warming is part of a cyclical process which is not directly caused by mankind's industrial activities.
