How many times have you seen or been told that you could make money with Google Adsense?

The line goes something like this..."Build a site. Write some content. Place google adsense on the site. Get paid. Rinse and Repeat." I have also seen claims that if you build 100 sites that make $1 a day, then you could theoretically make $100 a day using this strategy. Finally, there are some people who chase only the big adsense payouts...those ads that reportedly pay $20+ per click.

But the real question is can a person with just an idea and little web experience really make money online with google adsense? This is what I intend to examine.

Of course anyone can make money with google adsense. However, there are clear lines drawn between those who make a little money and those who make a living with adsense. Truth be told, the majority of adsense publishers have to wait months before they finally reach the $100 minimum to be paid out. So, while the lure of easy, passive money is there, the reality is that there are ways to make money with adsense but the ones who really get paid out have expertise in other areas that clearly have to learned.

1.) Making money with adsense has to do with the amount of traffic your site gets- There is a numbers game that comes with making money as an adsense publisher. Most sites don't get more than 20 or so unique visitors a day. Since the average click through rate (CTR) is anywhere between 2-5%, you can see that you may get one click ever 2-3 days. In most cases, this would amount to .20-.75 cents...hardly a barnburner as far as making money is concerned.

2.) Making money with adsense has everything to do with organic traffic- Organic traffic typically pays off adsense publishers higher because the traffic coming to the site is highly targeted. Because the visitor is arriving to your site organically, chances are great that they are looking for a solution to a problem. Of course, ideally, the adsense ad will give them, at the very least, a hope for the solution.

The best adsense publishers understand this and make it so their content will hint at a solution but leave them wanting more in the end. These publishers will conveniently have adsense ads displayed prominently for the visitors to possibly click them. The goal for the publisher isn't necessarily for the visitor to stay on their page. The ultimate goal is for them to leave the page via an adsense ad.
