This is the seventh generation of video gaming and it's time to look at the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. While both are designed for entertainment purposes, you have to look at them for what they are. Originally both were higher than the Nintendo Wii though the 360 starts at the price now at around $200 and now the PS3 starts now at around $300. Originally the PlayStation 3 was designated at around $600 mainly because of one of the key features being the Blu-Ray. Truthfully, you have to look at what each system has to offer.
To compare the two would be fair and in terms of buying the consoles, the 360 is at this moment outselling the PlayStation battling right now for second place. Does that mean that they are both horrible systems or one is worse than the other? Not really because what a market dictates is not a huge indication of what everyone wants because everyone is different. Just take a quick look below as it has some of the highlights when it comes to each system.
PlayStation 3: When the system came out, the biggest selling point was none other than the Blu-Ray. It was the latest in DVD evolution and trying to keep up with the pace in the technological sense. Knowing full well about it, this actually did hurt them early on as people who play games weren't in a huge hurry to jump on it. The other issue looking at it would be the lack of exclusives. Of course, they later got Metal Gear Solid 4 if you are into that series. It has an online network but you don't have to pay for it being the PlayStation Network. Inside, you can find some PlayStation games to purchase from the PS1. Depending upon the version you receive, you may be able to play games that you could play on the PS1 and PS2.
Xbox 360: Sure you have to pay for Xbox Live but it's worth it if you use it. There is the arcade, which has some classics involved from the old Arcades from the past and some popular games as well. One notable game on there that was on the PlayStation was Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, of course it was on the Sega Saturn but it uses the PlayStation version. Instead of controllers with wires, you get a wireless controller and if you get ones with wires, it would be like connecting to your PC as they have USB ports.
There is some backwards compatibility for both respective systems. For the Xbox 360, there are about 465 Xbox games that you can play on there and it should work without a problem. In time, that could grow into a larger number giving it a much larger library to work with.
As far as which one is better is clearly up for debate. It would be wise to look at both of the systems and see what to find. Having not owned the PlayStation 3, it wouldn't be fair to give a review but using it however, it was pretty easy. There is no need to worry about a transition to the next stage as far as the PlayStation evolution goes. The graphics on both systems are pretty sharp and no room for complaint there.
