If you are one of the millions of people who was laid off from their job during the 2008 layoffs you might be wondering if it's possible for you to create wealth by working at home. As a victim of a layoff I can tell you with time, persistence and a positive outlook it's possible to get your financial feet back under yourself.
Creating Wealth Establish your Credentials
To begin your path of creating wealth working at home the first step is going to be to take an inventory of your skills and of your weaknesses. In order to establish yourself as a serious work at home person you'll need to make a full assessment of where you fit into the work at home marketplace.
Sit down in a quiet area of your home and take a sheet of paper and draw a line right down the middle of it (the long way) and on one side list all of your 'positive' skills and all of your 'negative' skills. As an example:
Positive skills Negative Skills
Good time management Like to sleep late
Early Riser Often spend time on emails
And continue from there. Once you've completed your skills list it's time to move on to the second phase of preparing to create wealth working from home.
Creating Wealth - Developing a work at home resume
Don't be fooled into thinking that a standard resume is going to work as well for you in a virtual environment as it did in the brick and mortar environment you just left. Your new resume must be strong enough to convey your message to someone you may never meet since you'll be working at home!
One prime example of something that should change is the heading we typically mark "Goals". Instead, you want to provide an overview to potential buyers. This overview should present your case to the potential client of why you're the right person to meet the needs of their job.
Creating Wealth - Finding Clients
Surprise! You don't have the same base of potential jobs that you had as a 'brick and mortar employee'! In order to create wealth from home you need to establish a client base that trusts you with their work. This isn't always easy but there are hundreds of websites that offer you the ability to showcase your talents and many of them charge low or no fees to do so. Some of the free sites that are commonly used are LinkedIn (where you can register for a free account, list your skills and connect with others) and oDesk (where you can register as a provider, set up a profile, take free skill tests and bid on jobs).
