There is something incompatible about holidays and organization. You can try every trick in the book, but when it comes down to it, things just don't stay organized during the holiday season. As things start to slowly head back into the semi-normal direction, getting organized again can become an easier task. There are many simple steps that you can take to get organized post-holiday on several different levels.
Make a list.
Lists are wonderful. You can write down anything you want to achieve and go from there. When trying to organize things, a very important first step is to write down the tasks you hope to complete. When you have a list right in front of you, it is easier to know exactly what you need to do.
Organize decorations from the holidays.
The first step many people take when putting the holidays behind them and moving on is removing decorations. When taking the time to remove your holiday ornaments, pack them neatly so that they will be ready to use next year. Secure decorations carefully. Label boxes appropriately. Store items in a safe place free of dangerous elements that could damage them.
Find places for new things.
If Santa was good to you this year, you probably accumulated some new stuff. Find a place for all the new things you have accumulated. Put the items in the appropriate room where they will be needed. Leaving things piled up just adds to a cluttered appeal. You might as well find a location for gifts now.
Try a new arrangement.
Many people find that a good way to start the new year after the holidays is to make a change. When taking your tree down, why not move the furniture around slightly? Keep things functional but go for a new look in rooms you spend a lot of time in. This will help change your mindset also.
Organize your family time.
The holidays may be over but there should always be time for family. Don't let the holidays be the only time you see your bloodline. Make time to do things as a family. Plan activities that don't require gifts. Just get together and hang out. The togetherness is what should matter more than anything else.
Organize your life.
Now that the holidays are gone, things must begin to fall into place again. Start preparing yourself to return to work or buckle back down on your daily activities. Pencil in daily activities, errands, and time for yourself. Learn to find a happy balance in your life as you move into the new year.
A little chaos is okay.
Don't get obsessive when it comes to being organized. Some clutter will be normal. Getting organized will be something that takes some time. It is also something that doesn't happen over night. Work a little on your organizational skills each day, and soon you will find that things will turn out just the way you like them.
