Has your "honey-do" list gotten a little long lately? Are you still trying to figure out how to accomplish 30 things when it seems like you only have time for 3? Here's a few helpful hints to get you started crossing off your completed tasks.
Start small.
One of the first things you should do is organize your to do list in terms of priority. It helps to know what absolutely cannot be put off. Once you've got that written down clearly, put the list somewhere where you'll see it often throughout the day. A constant reminder of what needs to be done will keep things in the front of your mind and you'll be less likely to forget something.
As you start a project, approximate how long it will take to complete the project and how much of that time will be "down time". This down time will allow you to finish up some smaller projects along the way.
Check your list for any projects that you'll need help on. If you find that you need help, arrange for that ahead of time and set aside a time slot just for that project. You should be prepared to work straight through until that job is done.
Don't be afraid to split up your list and complete jobs over a week or so. Some projects will take longer to finish than others, but they can all get done with a little effort.
Remember that little jobs like doing the dishes or washing the car can be done during larger projects. Let the dishes soak while you fix a cabinet, or wash the car while your clothes are in the dryer.
Keep in mind how much your time is worth. If your time is better spent elsewhere, consider hiring a neighbor kid or your own kids to mow the lawn, water your plants, walk your pets or even vacuum.
Of course, remembering a few time saving tips will help you out as well. Measure twice, cut once. In other words, if you do the job right the first time you will be spending less time on it in the long run.
