that simple.
* Writing *
- Edit before sending: The great thing about writing is that you get to look over your e-mail, memo, letter, etc. before you send it to anyone. This is paramount in your daily communications with people. How many chances do you get to edit a spoken conversation? Not many. Written communication, on the other hand, allows you to use the best words you can think of to create your message.
- Use appropriate terms: Good writers and public speakers know to always be aware of their audience. Composing a business letter to the CEO of a technical institute is different than writing an e-mail to your sister who lives five hours away, which is different than writing an article for Time Magazine. Know your audience.
== Pet Communication ==
Those with pets should remember that effective communication extends to animals as well. Sure, your dog does not know your native language, but she can certainly tell the difference between stern yelling and soft speaking. Animals learn by association, so if you are consistent in your dealings, eventually certain words or phrases will cause a certain reaction from your pet. Hopefully, it's the reaction you want.
Many pet personalities need the security of knowing that they are cared for. So, the next time your cat gets into something he shouldn't, a gentle, yet stern reprimand is fine, but don't scream and don't ever get violent. You will regret it.
Effective communication is more important than many people realize. From students, to everyday workers, to international politicians - we could all work on becoming more tactful, positive, and concise. Learning other languages and cultures is a small hurdle, not a roadblock. Imagine what this world could be like if everyone did just a small bit to improve his/her personal communication skills.
