How to publish articles online

How you publish your own articles online is a personal decision. First you need to select the type of site best suited to the topics you want to write about, and where your style of writing will be most effective.

You may want to start a blog, or to post articles on your own website. You could sign up sites that pay for reviews and articles, or join a revenue sharing site. You can also submit articles to some free directory sites, for marketing or promotional purposes.

~ Your Own Website or Blog

Creating a blog is one way to publish articles online. A few blogging sites share advertising revenue with bloggers, or you can monetize your blog with Google Adsense, banners and other link advertising.

Niche blogs often do better than personal ones, because all the ad links relate to the theme of your blog and your visitors are interested in the products and services being advertised.

A personal website can feature you own articles and may be used in the same way as a blog to gain advertising revenue. Free websites don't generally rank very high in search engine results, so you should consider buying your own domain and pay for hosting.

You should be aware that posting an article on a blog or a personal website means it is likely to attract much less traffic than if it appears on a busy site with many users.

~ Article Writing Sites

At revenue sharing sites, your earnings will depend on your participation, and on the amount of page views to your articles.

You should consider joining Helium, if you are prepared to contribute a large amount of quality articles, and to do some regular rating.

At Helium you can find publishers guidelines in the Marketplace. Any articles you submit there that are not selected will transition to one of the Helium channels.

If you have at least one rating star at Helium, you will see daily earnings added to your account from revenue share, and your articles will continue to earn revenue from page views, except in the non-paying channels. If you have one or more writing stars you will also receive upfront payments for each new article you submit, in most channels.

Other writing sites offer similar ways to earn money from the number of page views your article attracts. You need to promote your articles and post links to them where you can, to earn much from them.

To decide which article writing site is best for you, do read the terms carefully to see if you retain any rights to your work when it is published, and check whether or not the site allows articles that are also published on other sites.

Look at the topics and the format of articles published at each writing site, to see if they match your own preferences. There may be a minimum word count, so think whether you are able to write article of sufficient length. Some sites may require you to register for Google Adsense and place your own coding on your article pages. Your revenue will then depend on visitors clicking links in the ads.

~ Publishing Tips

* Write your articles in a Word file or Notepad file before you submit, and keep a copy of your article until it is published.

* Always proofread, spellcheck and edit your work before you submit it.

* Use your real name, or a real sounding pen name, and use the same name for all the articles you publish online.

You can make article writing your full time occupation on the Internet, and earn good money from doing it. The best way to build up your online earnings is use all the options open to you. This will provide you with multiple sources of income from the articles you publish online.
