Ski trips are great winter vacations for family or friends, and planning them wisely will ensure that the trip is a pleasant experience for everyone involved.
When planning a ski trip, consider the people going, their level of experience and their expectations of the trip.
Who's going on the trip?
Before your vacation, the most important thing is the guest list. If you're taking lots of kids, you'll want to make sure there are other activities available for them to do when swooshing down the slopes gets boring. If possible, check to see if the resort provides childcare as well to give parents a chance to spend some quality time with the mountain.
Likewise, if your group is full of daredevil skiers, a family-oriented ski resort might be a bore. Tailor your location to your group.
Experience level
The second most important thing about your ski trip is the experience level of your group. If you have a mixed group, select a location where there are difficult, technical slopes as well as easier slopes for beginners. However, if you have a high level of experience, focus on locations with more challenging options.
Expectations
It might be a ski trip, but not everyone wants to go on a ski trip solely to ski. There are lots of other things to do at a ski resort, relax in the hot tub, drink hot cocoa, relax in the ski lodge, get a massage and facial. Make sure to tailor your trip to everyone's expectations. However, if others want to be ski-demons, spending every waking hour on the snow, skiing and shredding, it is possible to create a trip that marries the two expectations, just make sure those preferences are made clear before the trip begins.
The details
With the right kind of planning, by the time the trip rolls around you won't have to think about anything but slopes, snow and relaxation. Planning, though, involves booking rooms, planning transportation, food and length of stay. Planning the details of the trip before you leave is the most important part of making sure the trip is a pleasant one. You won't want to be figuring out logistics when you're in the midst of the trip, so have everything from emergency contact numbers to credit cards ready before you leave.
Vacations should be about fun, memories and time spent together. Ski trips are fun, adventurous and memorable. Make sure your next trip falls into that category by planning out details, considering the people who are going on the vacation, the experience level of the group and their expectations.
