How to earn long term residuals for your writing

Residual earnings on the Internet can provide a long term income to the part-time writer, freelance writer, citizen journalist and Web content writer, in a way that print publications never could. Residuals are based on the number of times an article is viewed, with advertising embedded into the webpage.

~ How Much and For How Long Can You Earn online?

Residual income is available to anyone who can write for targeted readers on particular subjects. You can earn a lifelong share of advertising revenue on your freelance work, if you write informative or instructional articles (also known as "how-to" articles). Residuals from popular topics should keep adding up day by day, every month, year on year.

Articles on topics like health, fitness, insurance, finance, money saving tips and careers will always be in demand, and are searched for by people who will most likely to want to purchase something they see advertised.

News items, recipes and other forms of writing can also earn revenue, but are less lucrative. Current news, or the latest celebrity gossip, may attract a lot of traffic initially, and can gain some immediate revenue, but interest in the story will soon drop off. Advertising revenue will be limited, as readers of these articles are not looking to purchase goods or services.

Reviews about the latest music, movies, gadgets and games will also get some immediate traffic, but page views will inevitably slow down after a while. Reviews of travel destinations will always be popular, and can generate good revenue from the ads.

Seasonal articles bring repeated revenue each year, at the time they become topical again. Medicine, nutrition and science articles earn well all year round.

On websites that only offer payment for page views, writers earn residual income for as long as their articles appear on the site. Helium offers various ways to earn money, and active Helium writers can earn daily revenue share from their articles.
