As I kneel beside my bed.
I silently bow my head.
I began to pray for snow.
So to school I would not have to go.
My mother tucks me into bed.
I gently lay down my little head.
On my pillow so soft and warm.
Snug as a bug from the storm.
I woke up to a howling sound.
Jumped out of bed to look around.
I walked to my window to see what it may be.
Three feet of snow, right in front of me!
A blanket of snow covered the land.
The trees, the barn, even the van.
Today was going to be a snow day.
All of the children will yell "hooray."
I quietly get dressed and go downstairs.
Careful not to knock over the chairs.
I put on my snow pants and coat.
Tie my scarf so gently around my throat.
I take Max, the dog outside with me.
His tail wagging so happily.
We both run and jump in the snow.
Max is leaping to and fro.
I lay down in the snow.
Watching it fall and blow.
I am as happy as a lark can be.
No school today, I think with glee.
I heard a crunching sound in the snow.
A wet tongue on my face wouldn't you know.
It was Max, my dog, you see.
That's his way of loving me.
A snowball fight ensued.
Max my dog had been so rude.
I hate it when he licks my face.
To me, it is such a disgrace.
I throw snowballs in the air.
Max growls and jumps without a care.
Catching the snowballs one by one.
Our snowball fight has begun.
Sledding, sliding all around.
Max on the toboggan, I tow him all around.
Snow angels I did make.
The look so small for heavens sake.
Made a snowman, Max and me.
Then he ate the carrot nose right in front of me.
Angry, angry as I could be.
Another snowball fight we had, Max and me.
"Breakfast" I heard my mother call.
Max and I had a free for all.
Running quickly to the door.
Max beat me there, as always before.
Hot chocolate by the fireplace.
Mommy sets the table and my place.
She announces there is no school today.
"Thank you god", I said as I prayed.

My mother tucks
Whispered words wrapping round
As slow snow whitely drifting down
Winsome winter scape gauzy covering
Frosted trees with
Woke up this morning, And looked out the window
I couldn’t help but notice, There wasn’t any snow
So I sat
Last Night the snow started falling
I know I should leave for work, but I can’t help stalling
Before I can walk out
by James Lynch
There is no reason to hop out of bed.
Do I have to take the test that I dread?
The snow is already twelve inches high.
