Household tips for keeping your home germ free

There are lots of great tips on cleaning up! Here are a few forgotten spots that need tending to in order to avoid spreadnig germs:

1. Door knobs! Door knobs are one of the most likely spots to have germs on them. We all know that fingers end up in eyes and mouths and inevitably spread germs, many of which cause illness. Wipe down knows regularly, especially during flu season!

2. The telephone! This is another very grimy place. For some reason, the phone always ends up looking atrocious after a short time! Make sure to disinfect the phone regularly - this is an item that is handled so frequently that viable germs can be spread easily.

3. The kitchen sink! You may have heard that most kitchen sinks are far dirtier than our toilets! Scientists in the field recommend disinfecting sinks very often - daily in my book - with a sink full of water and a few drops of bleach. Apparently, bleach in very tiny amounts is sufficient to decontaminate the sink.

4. The kitchen sponge! Yuck! They are rarely clean and often full of food particles even if you run them through the dishwasher. To decontaminate a fairly particle-free sponge you can run it at high temperature in the dishwasher or steam it thoroughly in the microwave. Better yet, throw it out and use a new one!
