Top 10 qualities and skills employers seek

When you go out and look for a job, there are certain skills that one needs in order to find employment. Whether you are looking for your first job, or looking to become a CEO of a company, there is definitely a skill set that every successful employee will have. Here are a few of those skills that will help you out when looking for work.

First, you need to be a team player. Every employer needs someone who is willing, and able to work with others, and get along with others at work. The last thing a manager needs is for his employees to be bickering, or not working because of who else may be working on the project as well.

Second, be reliable. An employer is looking for someone that they can count on when things need to get done. If you can show tha you are someone who will be on time, and do the work assigned to you, you will have a great chance to land a job, and do very well at that job.

Tip number three is that you should be willing to start at the bottom. If you have no experience, you need to take time to learn, and if you do have experience, you are still the new guy. Chances are that you will work the holidays, the weekends and the longer hours, so suck it up, and you will eventually move up a few rungs on the company ladder.

The fourth quality that an employer likes in an employee, is someone that is willing to go the extra mile. The guy who is willing to stay late, or volunteer for extra assignments, is a guy who will make friends very quickly. That camaraderie in the workplace will be a good thing when it comes to getting along with your co-workers.

A nice quality to have is to be someone who is able to be friendly with people. If you can put people at ease, you are more likely to do well in the office. Not only will you get along with your associates, but you will be able to interact well with customers, or clients when they come calling.

Passion for your job is a quality that employers seek. When you are at work you represent your employer. Since you are working for them, always put your best foot forward. Even if you hate your job, put a smile on, and do the best that you can during the day.

Career goals are another thing that an employer will be looking for in the hiring process. Whether your goal is to get a foot in the door in an industry, or to be sales manager in a year, if you don't have a goal for your time at work, an employer may not be willing to put time into your development.

Education is a key aspect to your employment in a lot of cases. If you are in school, or have graduated from high school, or college, you will have a leg up on those who haven't, or won't ever graduate from school. Education shows a knack for setting goals too, and is something you can highlight on your resume, or application.

Can you handle pressure? Jobs are stressful, and sometimes you have to think on your feet, and when that time comes, can you do that? An employer loves someone who is cool, calm, and good under fire. It helps the office mood, and can make customers, and clients feel as if the business is being run in a smooth manner.

Do you have other skills outside of work? An employer is looking for someone who has knowledge of the products or service being offered before making a hire. While this may not be a make or break proposition, having some background knowledge before you interview will increase your chances of being hired.

If you follow a few of these tips, you will increase your chances of getting hired. These things are universal, and if you can master a few of these skills, or qualities, you will never be out of a job for long.
