Poetry: Ireland

Legend of the Harp:

The Emerald Isle sits majestically.

Right beside the deep blue sea.

Tis the land of legend you see.

Of mythical castles and dragons that be.

There is a deep dark legend from the past.

How did the harp come to be you ask?

A symbol of Ireland for all time.

An ancient instrument so delicate, so fine.

There was a young lass that lost her dad.

He didn't come home and she was so sad.

Along came three leprechauns,

looked at the lass and said; "come on."

They pulled out some of her long golden hair.

With it made a harp because she was so fair.

She played the harp for hours on end.

Until her father found his way home again.

Word spread throughout the land.

A celebration that would be so grand.

Guiness and Irish whiskey for all.

The three little leprechauns felt so tall.

Step dancing went on through the night.

The three leprechauns took up flight.

Going home to guard their gold.

In Shamrock Garden, all were told.

This is but one tale that has been told.

The tale is so very, very old.

This is how the harp came to be.

The symbol of Ireland for all to see.
