TOM: HE WHO DOUBTS
My name is Tom. I am known as he who doubts. I said to the man who said that he was the Boss: You are not who you say you are, are you?'
You know, don't you, the tale I speak of? He was stood there, in front of me; He who was dead; how could that be?
Give me a break! Let me ask you: What would you have thought? I knew Him to be dead and gone. I did, I tell you. I saw it. I wept. And now? He said that He rose from the dead. Put your hands in my sores, he said, so he could prove it. How sick can you get? I can't stand the sight of blood, at the best of times - but I did say - if he could show me, I might just say that Yes, it is You!' I did not think that I would have to do it. Each of my mates there with us, said it is He. But not at first. At first they felt like me.
So what if I want some proof? Is it wrong to want to be sure? It gets me so cross that I am known as Tom, the one who doubts, in a world like yours where doubt is the norm. I ask you, is that just? I don't think so. I did not sell the Boss down the river, did I? In the end I said Boss! It is You!' And He blessed me
