A gentle-man I work with
He dident have a wife
He had a special daughter
They had a special life
When he started work here
He came in late each day
A lazy person,this I thought
I will have dock his pay
I watched him very carefully
Most day,s just the same
I was getting livid!
I thought "whats his little game"
I got him in my office
To tell him how I thought
If this should continue
I would have to do,what I really ought
Then he told his story
About his wife who had died
He told me all the details
Then I nearly cried
He did the work of two
A mother and a dad
His girl and him were happy
Not in the least bit sad
The reason that he came in late
Mostly every day
He had to do the school run
And that got in the way
I told my wife about this story
And at me she got mad
I was really not to blame
But of course. I looked real bad
The man we now speak of
A tradesman in his right
My wife now doe,s the school run
Each morning and each night
You must see him, to beleive this person
Making the best of what he,s got
Giving without exception
Whether right or not

(written in 1990)
Our friendship was envied
by all the rest,
we never betrayed one another
nor spoke
For the first time in my life
I've truly loved someone with all of my heart
You make me the happiest person alive
But why

He dident have a wife
He had a special daughter
