HIDDEN
I didn't know
That it was there,
Until it stepped
From the shadows,
Where it had grown
To my surprise,
And was now a Terror.
When it held out its hand,
I decided
To wrestle it,
To push it back.
Yet somehow,
It managed to grow
Stronger,
Instead of smaller.
Finally,
Breathlessly,
I realized
I didn't have to
Beat it,
I had to look it
In its eyes
And Name it.
So when it held out its hand
Again,
I took it firmly,
And whispered softly,
"Fear."

The numbing pain of loss
Laid
Strength of Fear
We are those who
desire servitude
mending of maladies
easing the pain
feeling vicariously
Viewing through windows
while
